Assistant Professor, Cybersecurity (Tenure Track)

Department: Dean of Science and Engineering
Location: Wellesley Hills

Position Summary

Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity. The successful candidate will teach hands‑on laboratory courses and develop curricula that meet National Center of Academic Excellence (NCAE) guidelines and the needs of the STEM division. Priority areas include cybersecurity fundamentals, network security, and application security. Preferred knowledge areas are incident response and forensics, penetration testing, security operations, emerging technologies, and information security management.

The faculty member will advise, mentor, and support students in technical interviewing, writing, and project management. The role also involves developing programs to recruit and retain underrepresented students and using the campus Cyber Range for outreach and community‑based learning. Continuous certification maintenance is required.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach a full‑time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of Cybersecurity courses.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Prepare course syllabi and develop curricula to meet program requirements and learning outcomes.
  • Serve as academic advisor, with particular emphasis on advising and mentoring minoritized students.
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four office hours per week.
  • Participate in program and resource development, accreditation, articulation, and assessment.
  • Collaborate on instructional materials, lab experiences, simulations, and demonstrations.
  • Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, and other required reports by due dates.
  • Serve on College committees as elected or appointed.
  • Attend program, division, and committee meetings.
  • Assist the program and STEM Dean in recruiting qualified adjunct faculty.
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor to meet the needs of the College.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or Computer Science from an accredited university.
  • Post‑secondary teaching experience.
  • Relevant industry experience in Cybersecurity or Information Technology with a focus on Cybersecurity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity or Information Technology from an accredited university.
  • Current cybersecurity‑related certifications or licenses (e.g., CISSP, CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA, Cisco Security) or a commitment to pursuing these.
  • Ability to adapt CompTIA training into the instruction of relevant courses.
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of affirmative action.
  • Experience working in a community college or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need.
  • Teaching experience at a community college.
  • Two years of teaching experience in credit‑bearing courses at the college level or equivalent industry training experience.
  • Demonstrated versatility in teaching a range of Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Information Technology courses.
  • Experience in curricular planning and assessment, inclusive pedagogy, and technologies to enhance student learning.
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.
  • Experience with federal and/or state grants.
  • Interest in workforce development needs in the regional community.
  • Experience with outreach activities with K‑12 schools.
Salary Range & Benefits

Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000, based on education and experience as per the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
