Graduate Peer Tutor
This position consists of group tutoring to graduate students. In general, tutors can expect to hold one group tutoring session per week for 1-2 hours per session, and a handful of office hours for the duration of the course. Tutors will clarify learning problems in specific subject areas, assist in reviewing class material, discussing course texts, problem-solving, and test preparation. Tutors can also expect to spend time preparing for each tutoring session for 2-3 hours per class.
This preparation includes meeting with professors and occasionally attending class. Between tutoring and preparation, the weekly time commitment averages around 10 hours.
While Graduate Peer Tutors are not expected to know every detail of these courses, a tutor will need to specialize in one or more specific graduate courses or equivalent course content amongst the following:
- ACC
6110 – Resource Planning and Control/Managerial Accounting - ACC
7800 – Financial Reporting - ECN
6110 – Entrepreneurial Economics; comparable to ECN
7500 Managerial Economics - FIN
6110 – Finance - FIN
7800 – Finance - STR
7800– Strategy - OIM
6301 – Programming for Business Analytics - OIM
7800 – Operations and Information Management - QTM
7800 – Business Analytics - QTM
9510 - Optimization Method
Hold one group tutoring session per week for 1-2 hours per session. Assist students with problem solving, test preparation, reviewing class material, and clarifying problems in specific course subject. Hold office hours during the semester where students taking the course can ask questions about course material. Prepare for each tutor session by meeting with the teaching faculty and occasionally attending class.
Check your email regularly and communicate with students about group tutor sessions and office hours. Maintain outlook calendar with group tutor sessions. Meet with the professors of your assigned subject at the beginning of each semester and regularly throughout the semester. As schedule allows proctor exams. Complete required tutor orientation, meet with Katherine Worthington as requested and respond to emails in a timely manner.
Track attendance at group tutor sessions and share with Graduate Academic Services. Assume additional responsibilities as required.
Must be a graduate student currently enrolled at the FW Olin Graduate School of Business.
