Adjunct Faculty – Introductory Computers and Technology Courses

Located in Greater Boston, Mass Bay is a comprehensive, open-access community college, offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community, and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students with various needs and backgrounds. The candidate is expected to commit to excellence in teaching and learning, collaboration and professional development. Adjunct faculty are expected to deliver course materials in a learner-centered environment conducive to engaging students in the learning process.

The faculty member in this position communicates consistently and effectively with students, faculty and administrators, and responds to communications within a 24 hour period of time. The faculty is responsible for managing this course through timely grading of assignments, providing substantial student feedback with assignments, and submission of clinical evaluations, attendance and grades.

Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in Computer Science from qualified applicants. Responsibilities will include developing and teaching courses in the areas of computer science. They will also demonstrate an ability to engage, mentor, and work with diverse student populations. They will be comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses by implementing active learning strategies using current computer technologies, software, and tools.

The candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, collaboration, and professional development.

Key

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course/program requirements and student learning outcomes to meet graduation competencies as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This list is not to be considered all-inclusive. A supervisor may assign other duties as required to meet the needs and foster the mission of the College. Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in a relevant field such as computer science and information technology.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action;
  • Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
  • A PhD in Computer Science or related field;
  • Teaching experience in beginning and intermediate level computer networking;
  • Experience teaching online or/and remote courses using tools like Cisco Web Ex, ZOOM, Google Classroom, etc.
Additional Information:

Salary Range: $1,397 - $1,585 per credit
