Special Educator
The Language-Based Teacher works as part of a team of school staff to ensure the success and growth of students in the LBC program.
Position responsibilities include:
- Teaching students specific skills and strategies to help them access curriculum
- Conducting IEP meetings and completing all related paperwork in a timely fashion
- Monitoring student progress; revising IEP according to progress
- Co-teaching in regular education content area, or teaching substantially separate subject
- Preparing students for transition to post-high school life
- Communicating with school personnel outside of the department
- Communicating effectively with parents and other stakeholders
Job qualifications include:
- Orton-Gillingham certification
- Attendance at departmental and school-wide meetings
- Requisite licensure as defined by the DESE and SEI Endorsement
- Experience implementing all parts of the IEP process
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- A strong commitment to helping a wide variety of culturally diverse students achieve their full potential
- Ability to support the development of culturally responsive programs and activities that promote student engagement, family engagement, community involvement and a positive school climate
Physical demands include:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands or arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
