Lead Peer Tutor

The Peer Tutor Lead is an experienced peer tutor who provides academic support to students while serving as a peer leader within the Peer Tutoring Center. In addition to conducting tutoring sessions, the Peer Tutor Lead supports daily center operations, assists fellow tutors, serves as a liaison between faculty coordinators and subject-area tutoring teams, and contributes to program assessment through reporting and data analysis.

The Peer Tutor Lead may provide operational support during assigned shifts when professional staff are not present and completes advanced leadership and student support training.

What You Will Do
  • Provide high-quality peer tutoring that supports student learning, academic success, and a welcoming environment for students with diverse learning needs and backgrounds.
  • Conduct individual tutoring sessions, weekly walk-ins, and group study sessions as needed. Complete client report forms after each session, maintain accurate records, and communicate concerns, questions, and suggestions to Peer Tutoring staff.
  • Complete required tutor training and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Attend Peer Tutor meetings, events, 1:1 meetings with the manager, and faculty meetings as requested.
  • Review course syllabi, assignments, and Canvas materials regularly; remain knowledgeable about course content and campus academic support resources.
  • Collaborate with peer tutors, Peer Tutoring staff, and faculty to support student learning and strengthen tutoring services.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, positivity, and ethical conduct in all interactions, representing the Peer Tutoring Program and Babson College with integrity.
  • Model effective tutoring techniques, professionalism, and inclusive support practices; assist fellow tutors with questions about tutoring strategies, resources, and procedures.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.
Center Operations & Leadership
  • Serve as the designated student lead during assigned shifts when professional staff are unavailable.
  • Open and/or close the tutoring center, including setup and shutdown procedures.
  • Ensure the tutoring space is welcoming, functional, and operating smoothly.
  • Provide guidance and support to tutors working during the shift.
  • Identify and communicate operational concerns, student issues, or facility needs to professional staff.
Faculty Liaison & Team Communication
  • Partner with the Program Manager to serve as a liaison between faculty coordinators and subject-area tutoring teams.
  • Share important updates, resources, and recommendations between faculty and tutors.
  • Support onboarding, mentoring, and professional development for new peer tutors.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team culture.
Reporting & Administrative Support
  • Submit brief shift summaries documenting key issues, student concerns, operational needs, and recommendations.
  • Monitor basic administrative follow-through, including appointment documentation, client report completion, no-shows, cancellations, and missing reports.
  • Review tutoring data to identify trends in utilization, demand, student needs, and opportunities for outreach or scheduling adjustments.
  • Assist with brief monthly summaries or dashboards for subject-area tutoring teams and, when appropriate, faculty coordinators. Reports may include appointment volume, unique students served, peak usage patterns, waitlists, no-shows/cancellations, tutor utilization, common appointment reasons, frequently addressed concepts, and emerging student support needs.
Advanced Training & Referral Support

Complete specialized training beyond standard peer tutor requirements, which may include:

  • Public Safety and emergency response procedures
  • Title IX awareness and reporting responsibilities
  • FERPA and student confidentiality practices
  • Student concern identification and referral protocols (CARE | Red Folder Initiative)
