Embedded Learning Specialist (Part-Time)

Located in Greater Boston,Mass Bay is a comprehensive, open-access community college, offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills,Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students with various needs and backgrounds. This is a part-time, non-unit position with no benefits. The primary purpose of this role is to assist a full-time faculty in the Department of English with in-personand virtual classroom management, preparation of materials, and student support. This position includes both on-campus and virtual hours for up to18 hours a week during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Key

Responsibilities and Duties:

Assist with document management, research, and reporting;
Assist with correspondence and scheduling;
Assist with the preparation of teaching materials;
Assist with using adaptive technology solutions (e.g. voice to text, shortcuts, etc);
Work with students one-on-one and in small groups;
Encourage student engagement, i.e. how to respond effectively to feedback and self-advocate;
Demonstrate active and effective participation in class activities;
Help students understand assignments and instructor's written feedback;
Help students with reading comprehension techniques, often working with students in small groups to discuss and understand course readings;
Connect students to the Academic Achievement Center and other College resources;
Help students navigate the course on Blackboard in person and online;
May assist in leading classroom activity in small and/or large groups;
Review and understand upcoming assignments and curriculum via Blackboard course site, other learning management system, or shared documents;
Collaborate with instructor via face-to-face meetings, Skype, email, etc;
May communicate with students via learning specialist’s Mass Bay email;
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in required discipline, or closely related field;with one (1) year experience and/or training that includes teaching,instructional technology or program development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Aff;
Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
Proficiency in Blackboard or other Learning Management software platform:
Strong technology skills(will need to assist with One Drive, Google Docs, Blackboard, Microsoft Office, etc);
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Experience working with college students in a flexible setting.
