The Town of Wellesley, in coordination with Wellesley Public Schools, is recruiting college or graduate students in education, environmental studies, public health, or sustainability to support our cafeteria waste-reduction programs. The Sustainability Intern (Part-time) will work alongside waste-reduction coordinators to:
- Aid in maintaining an established waste-reduction program across 6th, 7th, and 8th grade lunch periods at Wellesley Middle School.
- Coach students, model routines, answer questions, and keep sorting stations running smoothly.
- Conduct periodic assessments and waste audits, track data, write brief progress notes, and join check-ins with school administrators.
- Create educational materials for grades K-12 and engage with school principals, food service director and other school staff to implement new programs.
- 2026-27 School year.
- Flexible:
Part time, preference for availability Monday
- Friday between 11:15–1:15 PM.
- $15–$20 per hour, depending on experience.
- Paid training; ongoing support will be provided by Town Waste Reduction Coordinators, with opportunities to learn more in-depth about challenges and prospects in school waste reduction.
- Resume-ready impact, professional references, exposure to school operations, and hands‑on sustainability/education experience. (Course credit possible if your program allows.)
Applicants must successfully complete the required background check process, including a CORI check and fingerprint check.
Applicants will need their own transportation to schools in Wellesley.
