Apprentice Lineworker
The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Apprentice Lineworker. Under the supervision of the Line Supervisor, the Apprentice Lineworker works as part of a line crew to assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the overhead and underground electrical distribution system. Responsibilities include assisting with line construction projects, operating utility vehicles and equipment, stocking trucks, setting poles, streetlight maintenance, and supporting emergency restoration efforts during storms and outages.
The position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and participating in standby and emergency response assignments as needed.
The successful candidate will progressively develop technical knowledge and hands‑on skills related to electric utility distribution work while participating in an approved Apprentice Lineworker training program. Candidates must possess strong communication and teamwork skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to perform physically demanding work including climbing poles, lifting heavy materials, and operating specialized utility equipment.

The position requires progressively increasing knowledge of electric utility safety practices, OSHA requirements, and overhead and underground line work procedures. Candidates must possess a valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s License with airbrake endorsement and a valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License 1B. Participation in an electric utility lineworker training or cross‑training program is required, along with the ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and utility vehicles commonly used in line operations.
Experience working for an electric or municipal utility; enrollment in or completion of the National Grid or NEPPA 1st Class Lineworker Training Program; familiarity with overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, utility equipment, and applicable electrical safety codes.
