Job Summary:

Performs supervisory work in the support of the Public Works Division, according to the assigned area of function. The position is responsible for the effective supervision of maintenance crews, technical personnel, and contract workers functioning in area of assignment. The position requires an advanced understanding of the supervision of public works processes and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.

Position sets objectives and delivers results with a short-term, operational focus. Position typically supervises employees and schedules day-to-day work activities to provide optimum efficiency and productivity. Position requires an advanced understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in assigned function or business area.

• Prioritizes, coordinates, and schedules the staff for assigned projects and tasks.
• Supervises personnel engaged in maintenance, installation, construction tasks, and administrative functions; ensures proper equipment usage, operation and maintenance.
• Estimates task and project costs and material quantities; adheres to principles of economical allocation of available department/budgetary funds.
• Ensures accurate maintenance of records and logs regarding tasks and projects, e.g., work orders, time sheets, materials required/used, purchase requisitions, inventories, equipment maintenance.
• Performs people management-related tasks, i.e., interviewing, selection, recommending hires, and participating in disciplinary and performance evaluations.
• Assists in the preparation of the division operating budget and monitors expenses and capital budgets costs/expenditures for adherence to established financial goals and objectives of the project and the department.
• Performs regular inspections of daily operations and projects, focused on determining job priorities, manning requirements, equipment allocation, contract adherence, and problem resolution.
• Provides training and project oversight to work staff in proper skills and procedures required to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
• Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders to complete tasks as assigned.
• Receives, responds to, investigates, and provides resolution on public inquiries and citizen concerns and complaints; provides information regarding assigned services
• Works onsite with crews under charge as needed; functions in a lead capacity to coordinate efficient and timely completion of work orders and project assignments; ensures adherence to appropriate and prescribed safety and security standards, accident prevention standards and regulatory guidelines; ensures adherence to appropriate contract specifications for contractor provided services.
• Oversees and participates with purchasing activities, e.g., assists with developing bid specifications, grant acquisitions, equipment and materials requisitions, contract management.
