ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION APPRENTICE/JOURNEY LINEMAN
Performs routine semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the electric utility distribution system leading to the acquisition of journeyman skills. Work is performed under immediate supervision of Distribution Supervisor or Crew Leader. Responsible for helping to deliver reliable, safe and affordable power for the City of Wellington.
Essential Functions
Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Schedule and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
Climbs utility poles, operates a bucket truck, installs hardware, fuses transformers and pulls wireConstructs, tests, maintains, removes, repairs and operates the underground and overhead distribution system and substationsMaintains existing high and low-voltage linesProperly utilizes and cares for hotline equipment and toolsInstalls transformers and other auxiliary equipmentCarries out groundwork before and after jobsPerforms tree trimming and runs bush hogMaintains street lights and traffic signalsAssists with maintaining PCB requirements to meet EPA regulationsOperates equipment necessary to perform work assigned including bucket trucks, digger derricks, directional bore machines, boom trucks, trenchers and other equipmentDrives and keeps trucks, equipment and tools in a clean and operating conditionParticipates in regular safety training as scheduledRequired to be on standby and work trouble callsProvides leadership and training to apprentice linemenAssists with meter orders and AMI implementationSupervises line crew in absence of Crew LeaderCompletes substation maintenance as neededInteracts with customers regarding temporary power outages, tree trimming operations or possible damageEnforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and ordinancesPerforms other duties as assigned or deemed necessaryComplies with all organizational and departmental policies and proceduresOperates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or neededProtects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronicPosition Requirements

Position Requirements:
High school diploma or other equivalentGraduation from a powerline school or an equivalent combination of experience and educationWill be required to be on stand-by and/or call-back to work trouble calls at timesCertifications / Licenses:
Journeyman certification/card for classificationAbility to obtain a Valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License within three months of hireSkills/Knowledge/Abilities:

SALARY RANGE IS $25.34 TO $40.06 DOQ, EOE, DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE.
