Educational Technician II Apprenticeship

This 18-month apprenticeship program will provide paid, on-the-job training and 60-college credits at no cost to the student. Apprentices will work full-time as paid/benefited employees in a partnering school district alongside a mentor. In addition to working, apprentices will receive blended classroom and online instruction at YCCC with an emphasis on Special Education. Upon successful completion of the program, participants may apply for their Ed Tech II certification from the Maine Department of Education.

• Student Support: Assisting with instruction, providing one‑on‑one or small group support, and reinforcing learning objectives.
• Classroom Management: Managing student behavior, helping with emergency drills, and assisting during assemblies.
• Material Preparation:
  Helping prepare and organize instructional materials.
• Special Needs Support: Implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and providing support for students with diverse learning needs.

  Communicating with teachers, specialists, and parents to ensure coordinated support for students.
• Other Duties: Assisting with personal care needs, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, and participating in staff meetings.

This no-cost apprenticeship opportunity is offered in partnership with and made possible through funding by the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine's Workforce and The Maine Apprenticeship Program.

Additionally, upon completion of this apprenticeship, we are anticipating pathways for apprentices to continue on to earn their Special Education Teacher certification with partner four‑year schools, including The University of Southern Maine.
