Position: Registered Nurse (RN), Quality Coordinator - Hospital
The QA Nurse will provide remote support and quality assurance by evaluating nursing practices to help maximize efficacy and optimize patient care. The QA Nurse will monitor data and activities in order to assist in the identification of improvement opportunities and risk. The QA Nurse will help facilitate Just Culture and encourage a pro-active approach to improving quality, safety and service.

MAIN FUNCTION (QUALITY ASSURANCE):
  • Maintains a working knowledge of clinical applications used by clinical staff members.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with others in a professional and courteous manner. Actively supports hospital goals and imperatives.
  • Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to that of patients, staff and the health system. Actively supports the quality improvement process.
  • Able to function autonomously.
  • Screens cases from department triggers and processes positive cases
  • Maintains or monitors departmental and system quality data
  • Reviews events in the event reporting system following up as appropriate
  • Reviews/abstracts charts, collects and reports data to applicable agencies - Stroke, Sepsis, CAD etc.
  • Prepares cases for Morbidity and Mortality meetings
  • Demonstrates ability to work with many software programs
  • Demonstrates good judgment, focus and ability to prioritize tasks/projects
  • Demonstrates understanding of state and federal regulations
  • Actively supports the quality improvement process
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills, professional manner and excellent communication
  • Complies with all department and system policies

  • Performs other duties as requested within the scope of applicable licensure, abilities and policies.
  • When staffing needs dictate, they may work an alternate shift or be scheduled to work on an on-call basis. Employees scheduled on call must report within 30 minutes of receiving a call. Operating Room staff must report within 20 minutes of receiving a call.
  • If applicable, demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to all ages of patients as documented by training and competency assessment.
  • EDUCATION
    :
    Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BS degree desirable. NYS licensure and current registration required. BLS required. ACLS and PALS preferred. Preferred certification in healthcare quality and Preferred Team STEPPS certified or certified trainer.

    EXPERIENCE
    :
    Three to five years' experience in nursing informatics and/or quality assurance.

    :
    Frequent contact with hospital staff, nursing personnel on all units, doctors, and outside officials; occasional contact

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    :
    Stands and walks most of shift with patients and visitors.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    :
    Occasional exposure to unpredictable actions of others and undesirable conditions. Potential exists for exposure to blood and body fluids, infectious diseases, cuts, burns, strains of injury from patients or equipment.
