Job Description & How to Apply Below

Position Description

The Field Engineer (FE) works directly for the Superintendent and is expected to exercise judgment and discretion in making recommendations, implementing policies and procedures, and handling a wide variety of matters in the field. The position is normally, but not necessarily preparatory to becoming an Office Engineer or Project Engineer. The primary purpose of the position is to proactively aid the Superintendent in front‑line field management.

In addition, the position requires a considerable amount of work, responsibility, persistence, problem‑solving ability and good attitude, because the FE is responsible for the majority of the layout on a project, supervision of trade workers and subcontractor employees, as well as lift drawings, safety, and quality control responsibilities. Although the majority of a Field Engineer’s time will be spent in the field, some duties will require work in the field office.

This is a safety‑sensitive position.

Position Qualifications
  • A 4‑year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture, Construction Management or related field.
  • 1 year of experience and/or a combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite (Excel), Project Sight, Primavera and Autodesk Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Past internships in the construction industry.
  • Project layout (surveying) in conformance with design and contract documents.
  • Check concrete forms for accuracy and adequacy before placement.
  • Perform production trend analysis for quantities of work in place and report for weekly and monthly schedule and cost control reports.
  • Assist with quality control, site safety initiatives and coordination of trade partners as delegated by the project superintendent; possibly directing a small work force.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and inspect delivered materials for quantity, quality and condition; report on missing or damaged items.
  • Assist foremen and trade partners with interpretation of plans and specifications.
  • Oversee trade partners, as assigned, and direct work forces of employees or trade partner employees.
  • Participate in jobsite safety meetings and weekly safety audits.
  • Collaborate with the VDC team on VDC scope of work, execution plan and deliverables related to field operations; review and navigate within the current 3D model viewing and scheduling software.

Moderate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
