Solutions Room Para Educator
Lewis & Clark Elementary
6 hours per day/ 191 days per year school year only)
Salary: $19.99 - $22.44 per hour
The Sensory Room Para-Educator supports elementary students by providing structured sensory and self-regulation interventions that promote emotional regulation, focus, and readiness to learn. In a dual-language setting, this role supports students in both English and Spanish, helping ensure equitable access to social-emotional and behavioral supports. The para-educator works under the supervision of certified staff and administrators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Support
* Support individual students or small groups in the sensory room using developmentally appropriate sensory strategies.
* Assist students in identifying emotions, practicing self-regulation skills, and using coping tools.
* Support students in transitioning back to the classroom ready to engage in learning.
* Provide support in English and/or Spanish consistent with the program's language allocation model.
Program Implementation
* Implement sensory and behavior support strategies aligned with student plans (IEPs, 504 plans, MTSS interventions, or behavior support plans).
* Follow established sensory room procedures, schedules, and entry/exit protocols.
* Document student visits, strategies used, and observations as directed.
Collaboration and Communication
* Communicate effectively with teachers, counselors, special education staff, and administrators regarding student needs and progress.
* Support consistency between classroom expectations and sensory room practices.
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
Environment and Safety
* Maintain a safe, calm, and organized sensory room environment.
* Assist with the care, organization, and appropriate use of sensory materials and equipment.
* Follow all district policies related to student supervision, safety, and professional conduct.
* Model positive behavior, respectful communication, and emotional regulation.
Qualifications:
* Minimum AA degree or equivalent or passed PRAXIS test required
* Experience working with elementary-age students preferred.
* Experience or training related to behavior support, sensory processing, or social-emotional learning preferred.
* Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.
* Ability to make good decisions. Patient, flexible, self-motivated, good communication, teamwork, academic skills and positive social skills and a sense of humor.
* Ability to relate well to students, parents and staff.
* May require lifting, prolonged sitting or standing. Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.
Physical and Work Requirements
* Ability to stand, walk, and move frequently throughout the day.
* Ability to engage in active supervision and respond to student needs.
* Ability to lift and move materials consistent with job duties.

180 - 219 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 10 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days and 11 holidays.
220 - 259 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 10 days of sick leave, 3 personal leave days and 11 holidays.
260 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 12 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days, 14 holidays and 12 vacation days.
Tuition reimbursement, 50% up to $450 per year for qualified expenses.

In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol & FBI. Employment is conditional based upon completion of the record check.
