This position is for an equity-focused instructor, passionate about guiding a diverse student population to achieve educational and career goals. This instructor will teach economics classes using culturally responsive curriculum and instructional practices. Additional responsibilities of the position include participation in curriculum development and revision, scheduled office hours, division and department meetings, continuous improvement efforts, college committees and task groups, assessment of learning outcomes, advising of students for degree and career success, and assistance with administrative tasks of the department.
This position reports to the transfer dean.
Beyond teaching, responsibilities include being the department chair for economics, curriculum development, evaluation, and revision, maintaining scheduled office hours, participating in department meetings, engaging in continuous improvement efforts (including assessment initiatives), serving on college committees and task groups, advising students for academic and career success, and assisting with administrative tasks within the department.
Essential Functions
* Teach and manage courses in economics including introduction to economics, microeconomics, and macroeconomics to students of different abilities and interests and from diverse backgrounds using various modalities.
* Develop, implement, evaluate and modify courses to maintain current and relevant curriculum and instructional methods and continuing articulation with Washington State community colleges and universities.
* Remain current with industry best practices.
* Support the success of the business transfer degree including working collaboratively with other departments in terms of curriculum and course scheduling.
* Create an equitable environment conducive to meeting students' learning needs.
* Work with adjunct faculty and peers to ensure consistent and quality instruction.
* Act as department chair for the economics department.
* Accurately and effectively advise students while providing information about the job market and the attributes a person needs to be successful in the field.
* Maintain regularly scheduled office hours at times convenient for students.
* Regularly review and update course syllabi and assessment methods.
* Effectively participate in college committee assignments and meetings.
* Collaborate with department and division colleagues.
* Create and maintain community relationships to inform program and course offerings
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* A master's degree in economics or closely related field from an accredited university.
* Successful teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Successful post-secondary teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting using a variety of modalities.
* Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.
* Bilingual in Spanish and English.
