The transitional studies student navigator supports current and prospective transitional studies students by assisting with intake, orientation, and ongoing navigation of the HS+ program. This role works closely with the associate dean, transitional studies director, and assigned faculty and staff to provide operational and program support. The student navigator also collaborates with the student grants center and the Work First director to support transitional studies Work First students with participation, compliance, and overall program success.
Additionally, the student navigator serves as a point of contact, working with students, staff, faculty, community agencies, and the public regarding program and departmental content, policies, procedures, and activities.
- Promote effective and inclusive onboarding of transitional studies students by assisting in the intake and orientation process.
- Maintain regular contact with transitional studies students to support retention and address academic or personal barriers.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for students, program participants, and the public.
- Collaborate with student services, staff and faculty to place students into appropriate levels of study and monitor student progress and participation.
- Provide information and guidance regarding program policies, procedures, registration, course offerings, testing, and waitlists.
- Communicate effectively in English or Spanish with sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds.
- Direct inquiries to appropriate departments and resolve minor issues using sound judgment while escalating urgent matters as needed.
- Provide consistent, ongoing advising, and support to students utilizing various modes of communication.
- Assist students with developing secondary and post‑secondary educational plans.
- Evaluate incoming high school transcripts for the High School+ program.
- Initiate appropriate interventions for students who are experiencing academic or non‑academic difficulties.
- Provide one‑on‑one support to transitional studies Work First students, including intake and weekly check‑ins.
- Track, review, and maintain accurate student timesheets and participation hours.
- Monitor compliance and communicate student progress and issues with the Work First director and DSHS case manager.
- Maintain confidential student records and support Work First program requirements.
- Collaborate with Student Grants Center to refer eligible students for Work First, Worker Retraining and Basic Food Education and Training programs, with the goal of increasing retention and transition to college programs.
- Support scheduling and administration of CASAS assessments.
- Conduct audits, classroom visits, and provide testing support during peak periods.
- Ensure accurate collection, entry, storage, and protection of student records, test scores, attendance, and sensitive materials.
- Independently plan, organize, and prioritize work to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Work with the associate dean and director for budget development and tracking of expenditures.
- Prepare reports and presentations for community outreach.
- Work with the associate dean and director for an adult education advisory committee.
- Collaborate with department staff and the public information office to ensure accurate and professional communications and materials.
- Assist instructional administration staff with customer service and communications as needed.

Minimum Qualifications- A bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in education, social services or family and community services; or an associate degree and four years of experience in education, social or human resources services.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Proven ability to create and manage Word and Excel documents.
