Summary

Wenatchee Valley College (WVC) is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track nursing faculty simulation manager position on the Omak campus. The role of simulation manager was created to help nursing faculty maximize the use of simulation resources, provide simulation training and development that is consistent, confirm that simulations are congruent with programmatic outcomes, and assure compliance with WAC (Washington Administrative Code) .

Simulation is valued for its ability to provide realistic, context-rich experiential learning in a safe environment. Functions The Simulation Manager Promotes
  • A culture of innovative simulation that advances International Nursing Association of Clinical and Simulation Learning (INACSL) standards of best practices, and promotes the highest standards of quality care and patient safety.
  • Learner-centered, faculty guided experiences that replicate substantial aspects of the real world.
  • Collaborative planning and integration of simulation throughout the program and on both campuses.
  • Practice that ensures a culture of dignity and respect to promote success of all students.
  • Supports a process that provides adequate fiscal, human, technological, and material resources to support and sustain simulation activities and training of faculty.
  • Collaboration effectively with college faculty, staff, administration, and students.

The Simulation Manager Creates
  • Simulation activities linked to educational preparation, skill level of the student, and programmatic outcomes.
  • Partnerships with appropriate vendors and industry representatives; solicits training and/or resources to meet curricular needs.
  • Curriculum for simulation training of new faculty.
  • Curriculum for professional development in simulation for experienced faculty.
  • Plan for short term and long-term integration of simulation into the curriculum.
  • An identified method of debriefing each simulated activity.
  • An identified method of evaluating simulation activities for students and faculty.
  • A description of the use of simulation in the annual nursing commission report.
The Simulation Manager Assures
  • Currency and competency in the use of simulation while managing the simulation program.
  • Collection, analysis, and evaluation of simulation data and dissemination of relevant information to nursing program faculty and staff.
  • Faculty to student ratios in simulation lab as no more than 1:10 in the associate degree Program and 1:15 in the BSN pathway Programs.
  • Qualified simulation faculty supervise and evaluate student clinical and practice experiences.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing, or master’s degree in nursing in progress.
  • Professional unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Washington state or ability to obtain license.
  • Evidence of current clinical skills in medical-surgical nursing.
  • Two years of simulation experience.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) Certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm to student learning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful post-secondary teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Willingness to take a leadership role in areas of educational and professional expertise.
  • Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
