6th Grade ELA Teacher
Orchard Middle School
1.0 FTE Continuing Contract
Beginning the School Year
Position Summary:
The Grade 6 ELA Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based English Language Arts instruction to 6th-grade students. This individual will use data to identify learning gaps, design differentiated instructional supports, and collaborate with the grade-level team to ensure all students meet or exceed grade-level proficiency during their critical transition into middle school.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Core ELA Instruction (Tier
1)
- Plan and execute rigorous, engaging lessons aligned with state standards for 6th-grade reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Foster a classroom culture that promotes a love for reading, critical thinking, and a positive transition into middle school literacy.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a diverse learner population, including ELL and Special Education students.
- Collaborate with other ELA teachers and professional learning communities to continuously improve learning outcomes for all students.
- Regularly analyze various forms of academic data to identify specific student learning gaps and reading levels.
- Facilitate targeted, small-group instruction within the classroom focusing on skills like fluency, comprehension, or writing stamina.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of student progress to determine instructional effectiveness and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Participate in PLC meetings to discuss student growth, share data, and plan collaborative learning initiatives.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student academic progress and classroom updates.
- Collaborate with colleagues to tightly align daily classroom instruction with overall grade-level goals.
- Keep accurate records by regularly updating student grades, digital portfolios, and assignment feedback.
Able to work collaboratively with and take direction from program teaching staff. May require prolonged sitting or standing. Attendance and punctuality are critical for this position.
SCHEDULE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
