Speech & Language Pathologist Assistant
Special Education Department
7.5 hours per day/191 days per year
Salary: $30.45 - $32.90 per hour
* Beginning the School Year
DESCRIPTION:
The SLP Assistant will assist the Speech Language Pathologist in conjunction with educational goals relating to communicatively disordered students. Implementation of treatment as developed by the SLP and recording of behaviors during therapy sessions, help with maintaining clinical records and support staff with data collection. Sitting and standing for long periods of time can be expected. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum AA degree or equivalent or a passed praxis test required. Training leading to comprehensive skills certification. Completion of or enrollment in Instructional Assistant Washington State Apprenticeship Program or BA in Speech, Communications or related field. Ability to work with special needs students (ages 0 - 21). Data entry and retrieval skills required. Have previous experience in a school setting; must be able to follow written and verbal directions.
Must be able to work with other adults and interact positively with parents and students. Ability to remain calm in all situations. Ability to make good decisions. Patient, flexible, self-motivated, good communication, teamwork, academic skills and positive social skills and a sense of humor. May require lifting, prolonged sitting or standing. 180 - 219 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 10 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days and 11 holidays.
220 - 259 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 10 days of sick leave, 3 personal leave days and 11 holidays.
260 Day Employees - Paid leave benefits include 12 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days, 14 holidays and 12 vacation days.
Tuition reimbursement, 50% up to $450 per year for qualified expenses.

The recommended applicant, if not a current regular employee, will be required to complete an INS I-9 form and must provide proof of employment eligibility prior to working.
Disclosure Statement and Record Check:
Pursuant to Chapter 486, Washington Laws of 1987, the recommended applicant, if not a current regular employee, will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he or she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law. In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol & FBI. Employment is conditional based upon completion of the record check.
