Deaf Ed Interpreter
Washington Elementary
6.0 hours per day / 191 days per year
Salary: $30.45 - $32.90 per hour
DescriptionWork with students to provide interpreter support for general education classes at the elementary level. Assist in relaying instruction from teacher to student, from student to teacher and peers. Assist in meeting the needs of deaf students and perform related duties as required by the Special Education Department.
Qualifications- AA or equivalent, or passed Praxis
- Skilled interpreter of the deaf, preferably classroom experience
- Trained / certified deaf interpreter with knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting methods
- Knowledge of cultural needs of deaf students and environmental factors (lighting, seating, visibility, etc.)
- Understanding of language delays in deaf students
- Interpreter Training Program graduate preferred
- Good academic and communication skills; able to take directions well from others
- Excellent attendance and punctuality required

Paid leave: 180‑219 day employees – 10 sick days, 2 personal days, 11 holidays. 220‑259 day employees – 10 sick days, 3 personal days, 11 holidays. 260 day employees – 12 sick days, 2 personal days, 14 holidays, 12 vacation days.
Tuition reimbursement: 50% up to $450 per year for qualified expenses.

Background CheckApplicants must complete a disclosure form indicating whether they have been convicted of crimes against persons listed in Chapter 486, Washington Laws of 1987, and a background check based on fingerprints conducted by the Washington State Patrol & FBI. Employment is conditional upon completion of the record check.
