Deaf Ed Interpreter

Salary: $30.45 - $32.90 per hour
Work with students to provide interpreter support for general education classes at the elementary level. Assist in relaying instruction from teacher to student, from student to teacher and peers. Assist in meeting the needs of deaf students. Perform related duties as required by the Special Education Department. Other related duties as assigned.
AA or equivalent or passed Praxis. Must be a skilled interpreter of the deaf. School experience preferred. Ability to relate well to students and staff. Trained/certified deaf interpreter. Knowledge or American Sign Language (ASL) method of interpreting. Knowledge of cultural needs of deaf students, environmental factors (lighting, seating, visibility, etc.). Understanding of language delays in deaf students. Interpreter Training Program graduate preferred.
Good academic and communication skills; take directions well from others. Work well as part of a team and be able to follow both oral and written directions. Excellent attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.

A background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol & FBI. Employment is conditional based upon completion of the record check.
