Teacher of the Visually Impaired
1.0 FTE Non-Continuing Contract (leave replacement)
School Year ONLY
Description- Ability to perform functional visual assessments and evaluations of the visually impaired.
- Ability to provide orientation and mobility training to students who are visually impaired.
- Provide supervision or instruction in Braille and ability to monitor and supervise para-educators in this operation.
- Ability to adapt curriculum appropriate to needs of visually impaired students.
- Participate in appropriate activities, support programs and district in-service education programs, and attend Evaluation Team, IEP, building, and district meetings and conferences as required.
- Other related duties.
- Certificate to teach visually impaired and orientation and mobility.
- Ability to interact with students, parents and para-educators in a positive manner.
- Ability to maintain required reports and professional standards required by state and federal regulations.
- Ability to instruct in the visually impaired unique curriculum.
- Must be able to provide direct services to students, provide classroom support, consultative/monitor services as required.
- Have proven ability to maintain record-keeping and communication with parents and staff.
- May require prolonged sitting, standing or walking for orientation and mobility lessons.
- Attendance and punctuality are important functions for this position.
