POSITION #253-CLS-07-26:
Para-Educator
Juvenile Detention Center
6.5 hours per day / 191 days per year
Salary: $21.32 - $23.79 per hour
DescriptionWorks with students and teachers monitoring students in a classroom located inside the Chelan County Juvenile Detention Center. Supervising students as they work on study skills materials, homework, video presentations and individualized curriculum.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Assists certificated staff in conducting activities to enhance learning opportunities for students. Must understand the unique needs of working in a juvenile detention center. Must have interpersonal relations, be highly organizational, demonstrate problem-solving skills and be self-directed. Must work in a highly supervised situation. Works in small group instruction or may work individually with students, as directed. Prepares materials for student use and administers and scores tests, as directed.
Establishes and maintains student records in order to have an accurate account of student activities and progress. Corrects student paperwork, oral work and records grades. Records progress of students with special learning needs, as required and appropriate. Types, duplicates, records student data, as directed. Collaborates with teachers to develop individual intervention plans. Assists in program evaluations. Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent required. AA degree or equivalent credits (72 credits), or successful completion of PRAXIS test required. Ability to de-personalize when confronted by students. Ability to follow written plans. Ability to relate well to students, parents, and staff. Must understand the need for confidentiality. Experience with office machines is preferred. Ability to make good decisions. Patient, flexible, self-motivated, good communication, teamwork, academic skills and positive social skills and a sense of humor.
Ability to relate well to students, parents and staff. May require lifting, prolonged sitting or standing. Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.

180 - 219 Day Employees

220 - 259 Day Employees
- Paid leave benefits to include 10 days of sick leave, 3 personal leave days, and 11 holidays.
260 Day Employees
- Paid leave benefits to include 12 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days, 14 holidays, and 12 vacation days.
Tuition reimbursement, 50% up to $450 per year for qualified expenses.
Benefits may be prorated based upon date of hire/hours per day.
