20 Hours Per Week - $22.00/HR

1-Year Grant Funded position (26-27 school year)

General Overview

The goal of the Wenatchee School District After School Programs is to raise math and literacy levels, improve academic performance, strengthen social relationships, and provide meaningful enrichment opportunities for students.
The Bicycle Education Program Assistant will report directly to the Bicycle Education Program Coordinator. This position supports the delivery of the Bicycle Education Program as part of the After School Programs at Orchard and Pioneer Middle Schools. The program, funded by the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Climate Commitment Act via Cascade Bicycle Club, uses the Teens Biking to Destinations curriculum to teach bike handling, safety, maintenance, and active transportation skills.

The Program Assistant works closely with the Coordinator to foster student independence, leadership, belonging, and community connection while advancing goals of health, safety, and equity. When Bicycle Education Program cohorts are not in session, the Program Assistant will support other After School Program activities that advance academic achievement, physical health and wellness, and positive youth development.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education, youth development, recreation, or related field preferred
  • Experience working with youth in school-based or community programs, preferably middle school students
  • Ability to support the success and achievement of low-income students from culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Basic computer and data entry skills
  • Interest in cycling and willingness to learn bicycle maintenance skills
  • Ability to lift and move bicycles and program equipment (up to 50 lbs) and participate in program bike rides of up to 5-10 miles
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse community members
  • Bilingual skills highly valued, but not required
  • Consistent punctuality and attendance
The responsibilities of the Bicycle Education Program Assistant will be to:
  • Assist in implementing Cascade Bicycle Club’s Teens Biking to Destinations curriculum including bicycle rides, handling skills, and maintenance activities under the guidance of the Program Coordinator
  • Support student engagement and behavior management using PBIS strategies and district safety guidelines
  • Assist with program logistics, including bike storage, transportation, and basic maintenance tasks
  • Support outreach to students, families, and community members; assist with volunteer recruitment and coordination as directed
  • Help set up and take down program equipment before and after activities
  • Encourage and support student participation in rides and enrichment activities
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and community partners
  • Maintain accurate attendance and participation records as directed by the Program Coordinator
  • Uphold physical and emotional safety standards for all program activities
  • Attend required training sessions, professional development opportunities, and meetings that may occur outside the regular worksite and work hours
  • During periods between Bicycle Education Program cohorts, assist with the planning and delivery of other After School Program activities that promote positive youth development, academic growth, and physical health and wellness. Activities may include supporting recreation leagues, bicycle mechanics and other hands-on clubs, active games, homework assistance, and math and literacy enrichment.

BENEFITS: Health insurance benefits for employees working 630 hours or more per year include medical, dental, vision, life and long term disability plans through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB).
