Ensures quality patient care by assisting in the performance of all procedures in the GI department. Responsible for the daily maintenance of the GI equipment.
Position Reports ToASC Nurse Supervisor
Essential Functions- Ensures quality patient care by following department policies and guidelines.
- Prepares each suite prior to each case by following the daily schedule and procedure requirements.
- Ensures safe patient care by placing blood pressure cuff, sensor for pulse oximeter, nasal cannula, surgical cautery pad and cardiac electrodes appropriately.
- Assists the MD/RN in the procedure rooms, including but not limited to: biopsies, polypectomy, dilation, charting vitals/patient status and the collection and labeling of specimens.
- Assesses equipment and maintains manufacturer’s recommendations and CH policies through proper processes related to cleaning, disinfecting and reprocessing scopes and other instruments. Meets with manufacturer’s representatives for new equipment and/or supplies or service requests.
- Maintains and updates inventory according to established departmental levels by ordering and purchasing items as required.
- Participates in overall GI ASC functions including, but not limited to, scheduling of procedures, training of new staff, maintaining appropriate statistics, assisting with Quality Assurance projects, education to improve self and others, and attending staff meetings and annual in‑service education as required.
- Compliance with universal precautions and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Understands the safety precautions associated with the use of OPA and other chemicals in the healthcare environment.
- Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- SGNA GI tech certification within one year of employment.
- Basic Life Support (CPR) certification (within 90 days of hire).
- High school graduate or GED.
- Previous experience in ambulatory care setting or endoscopy lab.
- CMA or NAC.

- Most of the work of this position is done in the Endoscopy lab area, where space is limited and confined. Working conditions may be stressful uires a combination of working alone and also working closely with others. Overtime may occasionally be required. General supervision is provided by the ASC nursing supervisor and the area manager with additional instructions, guidance, and direction provided by the physicians and nurses in the GI Department.
