Position Summary
This position provides students with the opportunity to apply knowledge learned in the classroom to develop clinical skills and gain practical experience in social services and behavioral health. Interns gain supervised exposure to behavioral health services including street outreach, case management, clinical assessments, counseling, and referrals. When opportunities are available, Interns may also assist with program development, research, community partnerships, data collection and reporting, and program or policy feedback to begin developing skills in administrative management of behavioral health agencies.
Throughout their placement, Interns gain a clear understanding of the day-to-day activities, documentation expectations, client engagement practices, and community partnerships that support individuals and families across the region.

- Assist with case management and help clients access community resources
- Support clients to develop and maintain social supports
- Provide coaching and assistance to clients to develop independent living skills
- Assist with developing individualized care plans for clients
- Observe and assist with administering screening tools and completing clinical assessments
- Apply observations and clinical knowledge to support primary clinician with developing possible clinical activities, diagnoses, and treatment modalities within the student scope of practice
- Assist with planning and facilitating behavioral health groups
- Provide psychoeducation to clients and families
- Coordinate client treatment with schools, physicians, and other community resources
- Complete clinical documentation as appropriate for all services provided
- Participate in 1:1 supervision with a task supervisor, clinical supervision with the internship supervisor, team staffings and client meetings, trainings, staff meetings, and other activities as requested

- Interns will be placed primarily with the outpatient services team assisting with mental health counseling and case management services for children, adults, and families. Additional shadowing opportunities may include crisis services, diversion, PACT, and New Journeys teams. This placement will provide exposure to evidence-based practices such as CBT+ and CETA. In addition, Interns will support the perinatal mental health project, assisting with community engagement and project development, administrative tasks related to funder reporting, and co-facilitating groups. - Housing Support Services
- Interns will assist with adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability as a result of mental health, substance use, or co-occurring conditions. Activities include developing relationships with landlords and housing providers, providing street-level outreach to encourage individuals to engage with services, helping clients obtain and maintain housing, and connecting clients to additional services or treatment as appropriate.
