The position includes a state retirement system, with a deferred comp program available. Health insurance package includes Medical, Dental, and county contributions to a HRA. Includes up to 11 paid holidays and additional floating holidays per collective bargaining agreement. Along with monthly accrued vacation and sick leave.

Supervises and coordinates a team of custody officers responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a juvenile detention facility, including a crisis residential center for runaways

• Participating in hiring and discipline of custody staff.
• Training full-time and relief staff in all aspects of custody work.
• Assigning job responsibilities via duty rosters.
• Scheduling additional staff coverage as needed.
• Conducting employee performance evaluations.
• Reviewing incident reports and conducting post-incident debriefs.
• Scheduling staff break and meal times.
• Approving timesheets.
• Facilitating annual leave bid process.
• Serving as liaison to IT Department, Facilities Maintenance Department, and Chelan County Regional Justice Center Health Care Manager.
• Monitoring of facility, grounds, occupants, and equipment.
• Performing procedures such as book-ins and book-outs, including risk and health assessments.
• Monitoring and evaluating youth behavior and assigning points to determine youth privilege level.
• Leading youth in exercise or recreational activities.
• Performing room checks to assure the safety and well-being of youth and adherence to facility rules.
• Searching detention rooms and common areas to ensure they are free of contraband.
• Caring for youth with minor illnesses or injuries.
• Supervising runaway children in the Secure Crisis Residential Center.
• Transporting youth to and from court and other destinations outside the facility.
• Searching youth for weapons, drugs, and other contraband.
• Restraining combative youth and applying mechanical restraints.
• Taking inventory and ordering supplies and equipment.
• Distributing clothing, equipment, medication, and supplies.
• Calculating youth release date/time from court orders.
• Authorizing changes in youth suicide watch levels.
• Ensuring accuracy of admission procedures including adherence to youth eligibility criteria.
• Providing team leadership in crisis situations.
• Making referrals of youth for medical care.
• Monitoring physical plant and coordinating repairs with maintenance department.
• Advising detention manager regarding individual youth special program needs.
• Performing data entry, recording statistical information, and writing reports.
• Operating facility controls including video cameras, intercoms, security doors, and alarm systems.
• Preparing and serving meals and snacks.
• Performing cleaning and maintenance work in the facility.
• Facilitating structured programs, support groups, and learning activities for youth.
• Assisting in development and implementation of agency policies.
• Providing care, supervision, and behavioral management of youth when assigned as direct care staff in the Secure Crisis Residential Center (SCRC) program unit while following the policy and procedures in the SCRC Program Manual.
• Other duties as assigned.

Directly supervises a team of juvenile custody officers.

Associate's degree (AA) or comparable credential from a technical school and two years’ experience in juvenile corrections or related field. Significant experience in corrections may be considered as substitute for college degree.
