Are you a detail-oriented accounting and finance professional with experience in construction? Join our team as a Controller and play a key role in managing the financial lifecycle of our construction projects from contract review through final closeout.
Daily Operational Accounting- Review and interpret owner contracts for accounting and invoicing requirements
- Set up and maintain projects in the accounting system aligned with contract terms
- Oversee and perform payroll (union/non-union, multi-state)
- Manage AP, AR, Collections with project accounting team
- Own monthly close process
- Maintain job cost accounting accuracy
- Ensure WIP schedules are correct and timely
- Oversee lien waivers, compliance, and subcontractor management
- Own the WIP reporting and percentage of completion accounting
- Analyze project margins and cost overruns
- Month-end and quarterly reporting deadlines
- Manage banking relationships and bonding company relationship
- Optimize the billing cycle, retainage recovery, and payables timing
- Handle client inquiries with professionalism and timely follow-up
- Proactively resolve payment or billing issues with project accounting team
- Improve ERP system and job cost tracking
- Build and refine the standard operating procedures
- Develop internal controls and reporting cadence
- Manage Project accounting team
- Recruit and build team as company scales
- Establish accountability and performance metrics
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed
- Contribute to a culture of inclusivity, trust, and accountability
- 5-10 years in accounting/finance
- Strong accounting background; construction industry experience preferred
- Strong understanding of WIP and job costing, revenue recognition, construction payroll
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
- Experience working with Construction Project Managers a strong plus
- Excellent communication skills, especially with external stakeholders
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and strong at juggling multiple deadlines
- A collaborative, team-focused mindset
