Job Description & How to Apply Below
If you’re an Electrical Engineer early in your career and more curious about why things fail than just how they’re built — this might be your lane.
Schaefer Engineering is growing its forensic team and is looking for an Electrical Engineer with 1–2 years of experience who wants to build a long‑term career in forensic engineering.
This is a learn‑first, mentorship‑driven role — designed for engineers who want hands‑on experience, real‑world exposure, and a clear path toward licensure.
What You’ll Do- Assist with forensic investigations involving electrical failures, fires, and loss events
- Participate in field inspections, site visits, and evidence collection
- Support investigations from initial scene work through final reporting
- Learn forensic methodologies directly from senior engineers and licensed PEs
- Prepare clear, detailed technical documentation
- Take on increasing responsibility as you build skills and experience
- 1–2 years of professional experience in electrical engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited U.S. program
- Strong interest in problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and investigative work
- Willingness to perform field‑based work and travel regularly
- Interest in building a long‑term career in forensic engineering
You don’t need to have your EIT to start — but you do need to be committed to the process:
- Sit for the FE exam within 6 months of hire
- Obtain EIT certification within 1 year of employment
- Company support provided along the way
This is a hands‑on role. You should be comfortable with:
- Lifting up to 50 pounds
- Working in confined spaces (attics, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms)
- Climbing ladders and navigating damaged or uneven environments
- Exposure to weather conditions and post‑incident sites
- Driving as part of the job (valid driver’s license required)
- Designed for early‑career engineers — not a “must‑have PE” role
- Structured training + mentorship from experienced forensic engineers
- Clear path to EIT and PE licensure (company‑supported)
- Exposure to the full forensic lifecycle
- Work that’s investigative, hands‑on, and different every day
$75,000 – $90,000 base salary (based on experience and qualifications)
