Role Mission
IDEA Special Education Co-Teachers learn instructional strategies and develop their teaching skills to provide highly effective instruction to IDEA students. The position is ideal for candidates seeking experience in Special Education teaching, looking for challenging work, and opportunities for career advancement.
What We Offer Compensation- The hourly rate ranges between $16.05 for 0 years of experience and $23.17.
- Co-teacher earnings are paid out over a 12‑month period.
- Paid Family Leave:
Up to 8 weeks of paid leave for birth or adoption, based on tenure and caregiver designation. - Tuition Reimbursement:
Up to 50% of tuition, capped at $5,250 per year, subject to manager discretion and budget. - Employer‑Paid Mental/Behavioral Health:

- Education:
At least 48 college hours required; bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. - Experience:
Classroom setting or work with children. - Licenses or
Certifications:
Willingness to pursue a Special Education teaching certification strongly preferred.- Bachelor’s degree holders can enroll in the IDEA Special Education Certification Program (ISECP) through South Texas Transition to Teaching (SOTEX).
- Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Adaptability to a variety of situations in the school environment.
- Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction of facilitators and classroom teachers.
- Implement Individual Education Plans and monitor student progress.
- Provide support for individual students inside and outside of the classroom to enable full participation in activities.
- Collaborate with professionals such as speech therapists, social workers, occupational and physical therapists.
- Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
- Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and help develop appropriate social skills.
- Assist with daily living tasks, including feeding, lifting, and/or toileting in the Life Skills Unit.
- At some campuses, provide school bus riding support before or after school (if needed).
