Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide services similar to those of a physician.
  • Examine patients, take medical histories, maintain patient records, identify health risk factors, prescribe medications, make referrals and otherwise treat health conditions.
  • See patients in the outpatient practice setting.
  • Assist with in-office procedures with physician and may perform minor procedures independently.
  • Read and interpret electrocardiograms.
  • Interrogate and adjust pacemaker settings in collaboration with Cardiologist.
  • Provide post-procedural follow-up care in the outpatient practice setting.
  • Interpret, monitor and adjust anticoagulation therapy.
  • Supervise nuclear stress tests and treadmill stress tests in the outpatient practice setting.
  • Diagnose and treat in collaboration with the supervising Cardiologist adult cardiovascular patients and other chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia).
  • Follow care plans developed by/with supervising Cardiologist.
  • Communicate with courtesy when interacting with patients and customers—in person or on the telephone.
  • Exhibit respect for co-workers and develop positive working relationships within the practice and other departments.

  • Assess patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations and identifying medical conditions.
  • Obtain, update, and study medical histories of patients.
  • Determine abnormalities by administering and/or ordering diagnostic tests.
  • Interpret test results of patients.
  • Provide pre- and post-procedural care, if applicable.
  • Instruct and counsel patients.
  • Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Focus on patient wellness and disease prevention; provide health education and counseling.
  • Work Weekdays with potential evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with policies and procedures.
  • Support a culture of safety and quality to protect patients and employees.
  • Honor patient rights by following privacy guidelines (HIPAA) and ethics.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local requirements by studying legislation.
  • Commit to professional and personal growth (mandatory education, certifications, continuing education, and precepting).
  • Contribute to a physician’s effectiveness by teamwork and addressing patient care issues; help develop staff through information and opportunities.
  • May attend hospital conferences specific to the Cardiology specialty.
Education and Experience
  • MSN (Master’s of Nursing)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an RN in the Cardiology setting
  • Provides direct care with licensing credentials under the supervision of an MD
Licensure, Certification, or Registration
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Florida
  • Advanced Registered Nurse Certification
  • Continuing education required to maintain licensure
