JOIN OUR TEAM AS A UTILITIES ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL SPECIALIST TRAINEE

Start your career with Pasco County Utilities as a Utilities Mechanical Specialist Trainee! This entry position allows you to learn the fundamental duties and technical work related to inspection, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Pasco County owned well sites, potable water, wastewater, and reclaimed water treatment facilities, and related equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in installations, modifications, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of water, wastewater collection and treatment, and reuse systems. Includes motors ranging from fractional to 500 HP, various valves, pumps, aeration blowers, mixers, mechanical bar screens, gear drives, compressed air systems, etc.
  • Operate a variety of equipment, utility box/boom trucks, and other equipment to pull pumps, motors and equipment for preventive maintenance, repair, or replacement.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, meters, and specialized test equipment needed to maintain equipment in water, wastewater, and reuse systems.
  • Assist in identifying potential problems, troubleshooting, and taking corrective action in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and conveyor systems.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records on treatment plant equipment, pumping stations, wells and reuse distribution equipment via CMMS and spreadsheet records.
  • Complete assigned daily work orders.
  • Assist in routine preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist in emergency repair of water, wastewater and reuse systems, including related equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and push or pull heavy objects.
  • Perform related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability and knowledge to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and perform maintenance work.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to drive a utility box truck.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and detailed maintenance records and reports.
  • Ability to read for comprehension.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with considerable independence.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, operations staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
PHYSICAL SKILLS / WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device or work with another team member to lift excessively heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively verbally, written, and visually. Ability to frequently bend, climb, stoop, squat, and walk. Perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods. Available for overtime as required. Work location may vary.

Ability to work outside, occasionally under adverse conditions.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license. Must obtain a valid Florida CDL Class B permit within thirty (30) days of employment.
