Overview
The Richardson School is seeking a Physical Education Teacher to join their Cudahy campus. The teacher will develop and implement physical education programs and health education tailored to the unique needs of students within their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). The role includes working closely with the Special Education Supervisor for daily program implementation and coordination, supporting students who are dually diagnosed with developmental, neurological, or behavioral/mental health disorders.
Responsibilities- Design achievement-based physical education programs based on current abilities and needs of students.
- Modify instructional strategies, activities, environment, and equipment to facilitate an optimal learning experience.
- Incorporate technology as appropriate.
- Develop adapted physical education plans that align with IEP goals and objectives.
- Actively attend and participate in IEP meetings as needed.
- Present comprehensive motor assessment reports and develop goals.
- Continuously evaluate and assess student performance, determining strengths and needs, and integrate findings into the overall program.
- Demonstrate initiative in developing and implementing new programming.
- Teach health and hygiene classes with age‑specific content and curriculum.
- Maintain a therapeutic and educational environment that upholds legal and professional standards.
- Ensure learning environments and activities support student development of academics, independence, competence, and self‑worth.
- Inform SES regarding lesson planning, motivational instructional programs, schedule changes, curriculum updates, and instructional aide performance.
- Complete all required documentation within timelines, including lesson plans, behavior data forms, activity requisition and notification forms, and transition summaries.
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical or Adaptive Physical Education from an accredited college or university.
- Current active Physical Education license (530) issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction;
Adaptive Physical Education license (860) preferred. - Experience working with individuals who have autism, cognitive delays, emotional/behavioral disorders, mental health needs, or other related disabilities.
- Hours:
8:00am–4:00pm during the regular school year, with availability for some ESY hours. - Schedule:
Monday–Friday, following a traditional school calendar. - Salary: $54,000–$71,000, based on education level and years of experience.
