DATCP currently has an opening for a Veterinarian – Senior position within the Division of Animal Health.

This is a field-based position and routine statewide travel is required. The selected applicants can select a headquarters in one of the following counties:
Brown, Calumet, Kewaunee, Langlade, Lincoln, Manitowoc, Marathon, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Portage, Shawano, Waupaca, or Winnebago.

Qualifying candidates are not required to live in a county headquarter location. However, reimbursement for commuting to or from the employee’s assigned headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Routine travel within an assigned territory and throughout the state for assigned work and emergency response is required.

This is a professional position acting as a specialist in animal health disease control and eradication programs. The incumbent is responsible for managing disease reporting, emergency permitting, and permitting outreach during disease outbreaks; completing epidemiologic investigations; writing investigation reports; developing and implementing biosecurity and herd clean-up plans in conjunction with the epidemiologist, State Veterinarian, and USDA-APHIS-Veterinary Services representative; performing foreign animal disease investigations;

providing assistance to law enforcement in the investigation of alleged humane or neglect cases; providing assistance to public health officials in investigation of zoonotic diseases; and participating in special projects.

The classification of this position is Veterinarian Senior, which is in schedule-range 15-03 with a starting pay up to $106,080 annually based on qualifications.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

These OJT opportunities include direct experience and practice through collaboration with co-workers/supervisor, peer mentoring, and job-specific training modules. The bureau provides the following opportunities:
Diagnostic training/control plan for foreign animal diseases, training in comparative cervical TB testing, CWD sampling, biosecurity and training in emergency disease response and incident command system.
