Health Care Assistant (Full Time, 40 hours/week)

At Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Inc. (PPWI), we are the largest reproductive health provider in Wisconsin, serving over 60,000 patients annually across 18 health centers. This role is based at the Wisconsin Avenue Family Planning Health Center and includes paid training in clinical care and administrative tasks.

Compensation – Starting at $19.75 per hour, with an additional $1.50 per hour for bilingual (English/Spanish).

Purpose of Position

Assist patients seeking sexual and reproductive health care by interviewing, screening, educating, and preparing them for appointments. Provide medical and administrative support to ensure efficient clinic operations, facilitate clinic flow, manage supplies, perform laboratory and screening procedures, and carry out front desk duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform front office duties: greeting and registering patients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, enrolling patients in third‑party payor sources, and collecting fees.
  • Interview, educate, and document patient history in the EHR; obtain necessary signatures on consent forms.
  • Assist clinical staff during exams and procedures and provide patient support.
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms and medical equipment according to agency standards.
  • Manage medical supply inventory and equip rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Perform and document laboratory tests (urine pregnancy testing, hemoglobin, HIV testing, point‑of‑care urinalysis, Rh testing); alert licensed staff to abnormal results; maintain laboratory records; prepare specimens for external labs.
  • Perform vital signs, IM injections, phlebotomy, IV placement, and pelvic ultrasound under direct licensed staff supervision.
  • Keep current on sexual and reproductive health care, community resources, agency protocols, referral procedures, and all Planned Parenthood services and programs.
  • Dispense contraception and medication per clinician orders; administer medications or vaccines as ordered.
  • Perform quality assurance activities and follow laboratory requirements per PPFA and PPWI medical standards.
  • Comply with all safety and emergency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Requirements

  • Experience with electronic health records, electronic practice management systems, Office 365, and Microsoft Office products preferred.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Certification from an accredited medical‑assistant technical program preferred.
  • Experience in reproductive health, family planning, obstetrics, gynecology, or related medical/surgical experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements

Hearing, talking, handling, and grasping regularly; lifting up to 30 pounds. Requires close reading vision, daily use of computer and medical equipment. May involve exposure to blood or blood‑borne pathogens with OSHA training.

Working Conditions

Medical office environment with moderate noise; frequent interruptions. Flexible hours, possible evening/weekend shift, and travel to other PPWI centers. Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation required for regional travel.
