Our client is a growing mid-sized public accounting firm serving privately held businesses, high net worth individuals, family-owned enterprises, and emerging companies across a variety of industries. The firm is seeking an experienced Tax Director to provide strategic leadership for the tax practice while serving as a trusted advisor to clients.
The Tax Director will oversee complex tax engagements, mentor and develop tax professionals, drive business development initiatives, and help shape the long-term strategy of the firm's tax practice. This leadership role combines deep technical tax expertise with strong relationship management, operational leadership, and practice growth responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the firm's tax department, ensuring exceptional client service and technical excellence.
- Develop and execute strategic initiatives to support firm growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Oversee departmental staffing, resource allocation, workflow management, and capacity planning.
- Establish and maintain quality control standards for tax compliance and consulting engagements.
- Monitor department performance and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and profitability.
- Collaborate with firm leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Serve as lead advisor on complex tax matters involving corporations, partnerships, LLCs, S corporations, trusts, estates, and high-net-worth individuals.
- Deliver sophisticated tax planning, consulting, and compliance services.
- Review complex federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Research tax legislation and regulatory developments and communicate their impact to clients and team members.
- Identify tax-saving opportunities and develop strategic solutions tailored to client objectives.
- Manage key client relationships and serve as a trusted business advisor.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA license required.
- 10+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
- Significant experience reviewing complex tax returns and providing tax consulting services.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and client engagements.
- Experience serving middle-market companies, privately held businesses, and high-net-worth individuals preferred.
- Demonstrated success in business development and client relationship management.
