Job SummaryThe Plant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production operations, supervising production employees, and ensuring that manufacturing goals related to safety, quality, efficiency, and delivery are met. This role serves as a key link between management and the production floor, providing leadership, direction, and accountability to ensure continuous safe and efficient operations.
Job Duties Production and Operations- Supervise and coordinate daily manufacturing activities to meet production schedules and output targets
- Monitor workflow, labor utilization, and equipment performance to ensure efficient operations
- Ensure production schedules and adjust staffing, resources, or priorities as needed
- Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate production employees
- Assign work, set expectations, and ensure employees understand job duties and performance standards
- Enforce company policies, procedures, and work rules fairly and consistently
- Conduct performance reviews, manage attendance, and address disciplinary issues when necessary
- Support employee development, cross-training, and engagement initiatives
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment
- Enforce all safety rules, policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and company standards
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and toolbox talks
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety incidents; implement corrective actions
- Ensure employees receive proper safety training and use required PPE
- Ensure products meet quality specifications and customer requirements
- Monitor quality metrics, waste, and rework; take corrective action as needed
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
- Complete and maintain accurate production reports, labor records, and shift documentation
- Track KPIs such as productivity, efficiency, safety, quality, and downtime
- Communicate shift performance, issues, and action items to management
- Ensure accurate timekeeping and attendance records for hourly employees
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs
- Participate in and lead improvement projects as assigned
- Encourage employee feedback and involvement in process improvements
- Serve as a primary point of contact between management and production employees
- Communicate production goals, expectations, and changes clearly and consistently
- Coordinate shift handoffs and ensure smooth transitions between shifts
- Collaborate with other supervisors and departments to achieve plant objectives
- Other Duties as Required
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred (manufacturing, engineering, business, or related field)
- Minimum of 3–5 years of manufacturing experience
- At least 1–3 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a production environment
- Strong leadership, coaching, and people-management skills
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and production flow
- Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA), quality systems, and compliance standards
- Ability to read and interpret production schedules, work instructions, and technical documentation
- Strong problem-solving and decision‑making abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with basic computer systems, Microsoft Office, and manufacturing/ERP systems
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities
Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the production floor for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Exposure to manufacturing conditions such as noise, machinery, heat, or chemicals (with proper safety controls)
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, or overtime as required
