Campus Security Safety Officer
Garrison Command, Provost Marshal Office, Camp Murray, WA
This recruitment is open on an internal basis only to permanent State employees of the Washington Military Department.
Responsibilities- Manage the security program and staff, providing 24/7 installation security and access control to Camp Murray military installation.
- Direct and coordinate all requirements for the security program, ensuring personnel are resourced, trained, and qualified to perform their duties.
- Responsible for budget and administrative duties in support of the security program.
- Responsible for security duties as needed; position requires carrying a service firearm.
- Write, review, update, and implement security policies and procedures for the security program.
- Five years of experience in work such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigation, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work.
- One year of lead and/or supervisory experience.
- Certification of successful completion of a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission; or a certificate of completion in a police or reserve academy or military training program will substitute for one year of the required experience.
- One year of professional level experience managing a security program.
- Basic First Aid & CPR.
- Communicate with the public, other employees, and converse by radio and telephone as necessary to ensure quick response to security related situations.
- Understand and follow applicable laws, regulations, and other standards to establish and/or maintain a safe work environment.
- Handle highly stressful or adverse situations, make good decisions, work calmly and accurately, and help calm others.
- Use senses and reasoning to gather information and make independent determinations regarding ongoing security issues, and be able to think and respond appropriately when quick and decisive action is required in emergency or stressful situations.
- Read, understand, communicate, and abide by applicable department policies, procedures, state and federal laws, ordinances, rules and regulations associated with assigned security duties.
- Gather information, develop accurate written incident and investigative reports, and follow up on security incidents, including the ability to interview, obtain, and accurately document statements from victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers.
- Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) to develop documents in support of program objectives.
- Basic understanding of computer-supported and automated security program operations.
- Understanding of Washington State purchasing rules and ethics.
- Ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
- Ability to take action to learn and grow.

- Screen incoming traffic to assess required authorization to access the installation, including reading license plates, verifying picture identification, and observing occupants to detect suspicious or dangerous actions, items, or other violations.
- Provide basic first aid and CPR, as needed, until arrival by supporting emergency response units.
- Adequate hearing to decipher radio traffic, vehicle noise, understand occupants’ responses, detect warning sounds or alarms, ascertain sound direction, and recognize potential dangers.
- Walk or stand for long periods of time while working at a specific post, directing traffic, and conducting vehicle searches and other patrols.
