Position Summary
Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants to fill the unique position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This role involves vehicle delivery and returning vehicles to Penske locations and Penske customers. Primarily, the position moves our box trucks up to 26’ and for CDL Class A includes tractors and trailer movement. The position may also provide assistance to the service department to deliver parts and equipment.
This is a casual/on-call part-time truck driving job suitable for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers seeking supplemental income, with a work schedule of 0 to 25 hours per week based on business needs. The driving location will be the Penske facility at 30 Mahan Street in West Babylon, NY. Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Major Responsibilities- Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.
- Check vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report issues to the location manager.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- 2 years of driving experience required.
- 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record required.
- Valid Class B CDL required; applicants must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in their state of residence.
- CDL Class A license preferred.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions is required.
- Ability to work independently, customer service skills, organizational skills, and a positive attitude are required.
- English language proficiency is required to comply with federal law (49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2)).
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Compliance with DOT regulations, including maintenance of a current driver qualification file, an annual motor vehicle records check, a completed DOT Physical, Safety Performance History records, and a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start, is required.
- Willingness to work the required schedule, location, complete Penske employment application, pass a drug screen and physical, and travel within a near geography for training is required.
- The associate must be able to see and hear and perform tasks requiring close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Tasks include frequent movement, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands and arms; the associate must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) regularly and up to 100 lbs (45 kg) occasionally.
- The associate must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and safely enter/exit the vehicle and rear cargo area.
