Job OverviewA shift lead is a managerial position responsible for overseeing and coordinating activities during the shift of a business or organization. The shift lead plays a crucial role in managing a team of employees, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently, quality standards are maintained, and overall productivity is optimized. This role involves providing guidance to employees, resolving issues that may arise, and communicating effectively with both team members and upper management.
Additionally, may be responsible for implementing company policies, enforcing safety protocols, and contributing to the overall success of the organization.
- Lead a team in the setup and operation of assembly machines and manual/automatic presses.
- Schedule jobs and coordinate work activities to meet production priorities.
- Monitor workflow and labor requirements for efficiency.
- Supervise employees involved in setup, troubleshooting, and operation of fabrication equipment.
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex production issues related to equipment, materials, and tooling.
- Determine corrective actions such as part approval, reruns, rework, or stopping production.
- Ensure all work meets company and customer quality standards.
- Recommend and implement process improvements for productivity and quality.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices throughout the department.
- Ensure compliance with the Quality System and update documentation as needed.
- Participate in corrective and preventative action plans to improve quality and efficiency.
- Train, instruct, and develop employees on production processes and safety protocols.
- Interview, hire, and onboard new employees.
- Maintain discipline, appraise performance, and recommend promotions or pay adjustments.
- Enforce company policies and personnel practices.
- Maintain accurate department paperwork, reports, and records in a timely manner.
- Order materials and supplies needed for department operations.
- Recommend capital equipment purchases and conduct cost justification studies.
- Assist with customer and vendor visits to the plant.
- Attend company meetings and professional seminars.
- Perform other tasks as assigned and required.
- Experience as a Lead or Supervisor, in manufacturing preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Desire to maintain a clean and safe 5S work environment.
- Excellent punctuality and attendance.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Capacity to perform frequent bending, twisting, reaching, walking, consistent standing, and the ability to lift/carry and push/pull objects.
Perform physical actions which may include frequent bending, twisting, reaching, walking, consistent standing, and the ability to lift/carry and push/pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position will oversee the 2nd shift production and staff.
