Family Services Supervisor

Position Overview

The Washington County Human Services Department, located in West Bend, WI, seeks a full‑time Family Services Supervisor within the Children & Families Division. The supervisor will provide professional leadership, supervision, and administrative oversight of the Intake Unit, which handles Child Protective Services (CPS) Access, Juvenile Intake, and CPS Initial Assessment as defined under Wisconsin State Statutes.

• Orients, trains, evaluates staff; assigns and reviews cases; provides daily clinical consultation and guidance; develops staff development and training programs.
• Reviews and approves case records, safety decisions, assessments, and recommendations to ensure quality and compliance.
• Assists staff in maintaining professional and ethical practice; participates in program planning, administration, service delivery, and evaluation across agency programs.
• Interprets and implements federal, state, and county regulations; contributes to policy and procedure revision; represents the agency in state and local meetings.
• Serves as agency representative to community groups and partner organizations; provides consultation, education, and coordination of services with external providers.
• Monitors program activities and budget expenditures; prepares statistical and narrative reports; ensures data accuracy and documentation timeliness.
• Participates in an on‑call rotation to respond to crisis situations and conduct assessments for child and community safety.

• Master’s degree in social work from an accredited institution; three years of public‑sector social work experience preferred.
• Prior experience with children and families in child welfare, youth justice, or CPS;
  Advanced Practice Certification required within six months of hire.
• Non–MSW candidates must complete an accredited social work certificate program within three years and obtain state certification within six months after completion.
• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license, available automobile, and insurance.
• Must be on call after hours on a rotating schedule (approximately every 4–5 weeks).

• Knowledge of Chapter 938 Juvenile Justice Code and Wisconsin Youth Justice Standards;
  Chapter 48 Children’s Code and Wisconsin CPS Standards for access, ongoing services, and safety intervention.
• Understanding of child development, trauma, family systems, mental health, substance abuse, and socioeconomic issues affecting families.
• Ability to manage staff, resolve conflicts, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and collaborate with coworkers, community organizations, and the public.
• Exceptional telephone, communication, and computer skills; ability to multi‑task, prioritize competing tasks, think critically, and de‑escalate conflict in crisis situations.
• Capacity to perform physical, sensory, and cognitive demands required for the role.
