The Respiratory Care Director of Clinical Education (DCE) is responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of all clinical education experiences within the accredited Respiratory Care program. This position ensures compliance with Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) Standards and Policies and supports program effectiveness through continuous assessment and review. In addition to teaching assigned courses, the DCE/Instructor serves as the primary liaison between the college and clinical affiliates, supports student recruitment and retention, and assists the Respiratory Care Program Director with accreditation reporting, clinical education resources, and affiliate agreements for the Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Care program.
Responsibilities- Coordinates and oversees all clinical education courses and clinical learning experiences.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the college and clinical facilities.
- Prepares, assigns, and supervises students during clinical rotations.
- Recruits, develops, and maintains clinical affiliation sites as program needs dictate.
- Maintains regular and consistent communication with students, faculty, and clinical affiliates, regardless of location.
- Participates in regional, state, and national clinical education activities.
- Assists the Respiratory Care Program Director with the preparation of accreditation reports and maintenance of required program data.
- Ensures clinical education resources and affiliation agreements remain current and compliant.
- Teaching assigned course and supervising clinical education.
- Curriculum development, review, and revision.
- Assessment of student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
- Accreditation, recruitment, advising, and retention activities.
- Participation in department/division meetings, committees, and college initiatives.
- Perform duties assigned under the direction and delegation of the Respiratory Care Program Director.
The term of employment is as per the Bargaining Agreement between the SCC Board of Trustees and the SCCHEA, employment contract, and relevant policies of the Board of Trustees.
Instructional Expectations- Meet classes regularly and maintain posted office hours.
- Annually review and update course standards and syllabi to ensure currency and compliance with college policy.
- Implement varied instructional strategies to meet diverse student learning needs.
- Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, and effective communication.
- Participate in college activities beyond the classroom, including advising, recruiting, committee service and advisory council leadership.
- Willingly teach face‑to‑face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
- Promptly report unsafe practices in accordance with college policies.
- Maintain compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Develop and maintain an individual Professional Development Plan (PDP) aligned with the Board‑approved Quality Faculty Plan (QFP).
