Job Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) Patient Placement Coordinator plays a key role in optimizing hospital-wide patient flow by ensuring safe, timely, and appropriate placement of patients. Serving as the central communication link between nursing units, physicians, case management, the emergency department, perioperative services, and hospital leadership, this role works closely with the House Supervisor to balance patient acuity, staffing ratios, and available resources.
Additional responsibilities include supporting daily hospital operations, such as staffing coordination, supply management, off‑hour OR scheduling, and responding to urgent patient care needs. Exceptional communication, critical‑thinking, and collaboration skills are essential, contributing directly to patient safety, staff support, and overall hospital efficiency.
Schedule8:30AM – 9:00PM, weekend requirement.
Minimum Hiring WageFrom $39.37 per hour.
Responsibilities- Collaborates with charge RNs and unit leadership to determine priority workflow.
- Assists in discharge/transfer processes.
- Facilitates the transfer of patients between units.
- Supports the House Supervisor.
- Daily communication and coordination across units.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- 4–6 years of previous Med‑Surg nursing experience, including utilization of the Electronic Medical Record.
- Previous experience with virtual technology platforms.
- Strong ability to multitask.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Registered Nurse, Iowa Board of Nursing (IBON) (United States of America).
- Basic Life Support (Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association) required within 180 days.
- Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter – Iowa Department of Human Services required within 180 days.
- Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter – Iowa Department of Human Services required within 180 days.
