Intervention Specialists assess student needs and develop personalized intervention plans to address academic, behavioral, or social challenges. They provide direct instruction individually or in small groups, modify curriculum, and employ specialized teaching strategies to ensure accessibility for all students. Collaboration is essential, as they work closely with teachers, parents, administrators, and external specialists to create a cohesive support system. Additional duties include monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate records, and using data to refine interventions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field; state teaching certification with a special education endorsement is preferred.
- Strong understanding of diverse teaching methods and individualized instruction.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills to collaborate effectively with students, families, and school staff.
- Knowledge of state curriculum standards, education regulations, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Ability to conduct assessments, analyze data, and implement evidence-based interventions.
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or a lawful permanent resident
Intervention Specialist Responsibilities:
- Assessing children's individual needs.
- Collaborating with various parties to design individualized programs.
- Collaborating with teachers and other parties to share the subject matter with children.
- Ensuring students are supervised in classrooms and other settings at all times.
- Ensuring children are safe and occupied.
- Employing suitable classroom management techniques.
- Keeping records of lesson plans, and records of children's performance.
- Collaborating with parents to refer children to psychologists and other therapists, and to link them with recommended services.
- Complying with Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
