Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus in our Engineering department as a Mechanical Engineer I. As a Mechanical Engineer I, you are responsible for providing support to engineering projects from start to finish ensuring compliance with company practices and procedures, as well as industry standards. Responsibilities include but not limited to developing complex mechanical designs relating to power switch gear, electrical bus, substations, and other electromechanical components within the electric power system.

The Mechanical Engineer should also be able to coordinate with customers and engineers to satisfy design requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Perform reverse-engineering of equipment and components.
  • Design parts with specification for manufacture.
  • Verify design comply with applicable standards such as UL, ANSI, IEEE, NEC requirements.
  • Learn/perform calculations relative to forces on bus and bracing.
  • Assist with installation of equipment on job site or provide remote support.
  • Ability to read and understand technical requirements presented in specifications and requests for proposal.
  • Provide support to quoting department for estimates on materials and technical requirements of projects.
  • Perform other project related work as assigned.
  • Prepares correspondence and updates various lists/reports, performs data entry functions, copies, scans and faxes documents.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 0-2 years’ mechanical design experience. Product modifications and customization knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with Solidworks preferred.
  • FE/EIT preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal, client and regulatory counterparts.
  • Ability to maintain production in a changing environment
  • Strong computer and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and operate client provided programs and systems.
  • Able to perform computations involving electrical power.
  • Effectively manages multiple priorities and properly identifies issues requiring immediate attention from those that are less urgent.
  • Thinks under pressure and acts prudently concerning the safety of others.
