Job Description
The Production Technician operates TIG welding equipment to fabricate high-quality stainless steel and aluminum components in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on precise manual welding, fitting, and finishing work, while following blueprints and technical drawings to meet strict aesthetic, sanitary, and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate TIG welding equipment safely and efficiently, including setting up and maintaining torches, gas flow, and filler materials.
- Perform manual TIG welding on stainless steel components of varying thicknesses, primarily from 16-gauge to 1/4 inch.
- Grind, polish, and finish welds to achieve required aesthetic and sanitary standards.
- Fit, align, and tack components prior to final welding to ensure accurate assembly and proper joint preparation.
- Interpret and follow blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and welding symbols to ensure accurate fabrication.
- Identify various diameter tubing and fittings according to customer and internal specifications.
- Maintain high-quality standards with minimal supervision and ensure all welding work adheres to applicable compliance requirements.
- Become qualified in accordance with Section IX of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code for manual welding.
- Inspect welds for defects and perform repairs or corrections as needed to meet quality and safety standards.
- Set up, operate, and maintain TIG welding equipment in a safe manner, following established procedures and best practices.
Essential Skills
- Strong manual TIG welding proficiency, particularly on stainless steel components ranging from 16-gauge to 1/4 inch thickness.
- Ability to operate TIG welding equipment, including proper setup and adjustment of torches, gas flow, and filler materials.
- Demonstrated experience working in manufacturing, fabrication, or field installation environments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and welding symbols.
- Skill in grinding, polishing, and finishing welds to meet aesthetic and sanitary requirements.
- Capability to fit, align, and tack components accurately prior to final welding.
- Ability to identify various diameter tubing and fittings according to specified requirements.
- Readiness and ability to become qualified under Section IX of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code for manual welding.
- Competence in recognizing weld defects and performing appropriate repairs or corrections.
- Commitment to maintaining high-quality standards with minimal supervision and adhering to welding compliance guidelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with stainless steel welding in a production or fabrication setting.
- Exposure to aluminum welding processes.
- Familiarity with MIG welding in addition to TIG welding.
- Experience in general fabrication work, including cutting, fitting, and assembly of metal components.
- Understanding of manufacturing workflows and field installation practices.
- Attention to detail and strong focus on quality and accuracy in all welding and fabrication tasks.
