Responsibilities
  • Conduct patrol of property and/or facilities by foot, bike or patrol vehicle to prevent, discover and deter the commission of crime; enforce criminal law; direct traffic on UC Health property; enforce parking regulations.
  • Respond to calls and complaints involving alarm activations, automobile accidents, domestic and other disturbances, misdemeanors and felonies.
  • Cooperate with co‑workers and other associates, conduct yourselves in a courteous, friendly and professional manner.
  • Write detailed reports on police activities; document violations of UC Health and/or department policies; interview persons with complaints; secure crime scenes; administer first aid; arbitrate disputes; conduct investigations; gather evidence; obtain witness statements; apprehend suspects; make arrests; give advice and general information to inquiries from associates, visitors, patients and the public.
  • Conduct inspections and document potential security, health and safety hazards; if found, conduct initial investigation and submit work requests.
  • Enforce UC Health policies, procedures and regulations, and all Federal, State, and Local laws as indicated in the Ohio Revised Code; make arrests when warranted; testify as a witness in court.
  • Perform safety checks throughout facilities and grounds; perform monthly checks of fire extinguishers and panic alarm systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in policing; read journals, books, attend training classes, conferences and in‑services.
  • Keep informed of persons and places suspected of illegal activity or potential problems within an assigned area; enter or retrieve data via computer terminals; demonstrate continuous improvement of operations and work processes.
Qualifications
  • Minimum high school education or GED. Some college, preferably in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Hospital Security / Police preferred.
  • Graduated from an approved Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy as a police officer and eligible for State of Ohio commission.
  • Must possess Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification or Ohio State Patrol certification (OSP) with minimum required training hours and no break in service longer than one year as a commissioned police officer.
  • Previous police officer experience preferred.
