Qualifications- Minimum High School Education or GED.
- Some college, preferably in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Hospital Security / Police experience preferred.
- Must have graduated from an approved Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy as a police officer and be eligible for State of Ohio commission as a police officer.
- Must possess the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification or Ohio State Patrol certification (OSP) as a Police Officer with the minimum hours of training required by OPOTA.
- Not have a break in service as a commissioned police officer for more than one (1) year.
- Previous Police Officer Experience Preferred.
- Conduct patrol of property and/or facilities by foot, bike or patrol vehicle to prevent, discover, and deter the commission of crime, to enforce criminal law, to direct traffic on UC Health property, and to enforce parking regulations in an effort to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Respond to calls and complaints involving alarm activation, automobile accidents, domestic and/or other disturbances, and other misdemeanors and felonies; cooperate with co‑workers and other associates; treat all patients, visitors, associates, and the public in a fair, professional manner.
- Write detailed reports on police-related activities; document violations of UC Health and/or Department policies; interview persons with complaints and make proper disposition or direct them to the proper authorities; secure crime scenes, administer first aid, arbitrate disputes, conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations, gather evidence, obtain witness statements, apprehend suspects, make arrests, and give advice and general information to inquiries from associates, visitors, patients, and the public.
- Conduct inspections and document potential security, health and safety hazards; upon discovery, conduct initial investigation if needed and submit a work request.
- Enforce UC Health policies, procedures, and regulations; enforce all Federal, State and Local laws as indicated in the Ohio Revised Code; make arrests when warranted; testify as a witness in court in connection with arrests and investigations.
- Perform safety checks throughout the facilities and grounds; perform monthly checks of the fire extinguishers and panic alarm systems.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and other literature, and attending periodic training classes in police methods and related subjects, conferences and in‑services.
- Keep informed and aware of persons and places suspected of illegal activity or potential problems within an assigned area; enter or retrieve data from a computer terminal, PC or other keyboard device; demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide RITE Cord values.
