Location: Olde West Chester

Job Summary

Local P&D or City Driver operating tractor‑trailer combinations between company service centers and customer facilities or work sites within the service center's geographic area. Responsibilities include sorting, handling, loading, and unloading freight while ensuring timely and safe delivery.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Operate the vehicle safely within DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspections, maintenance, and hazardous materials transportation.
  • Meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation and pass required drug and alcohol tests.
  • Load and unload freight on trailers using a motorized forklift, pallet jack, or manual methods in compliance with state and federal DOT guidelines.
  • Apply appropriate loading techniques (e.g., tight or cross loading) and secure freight with pallets, straps, ropes, or other supplies.
  • Utilize the Dock Yard Management System to monitor freight shipment locations and read and interpret shipping labels.
  • Complete freight movement forms such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, overage/damage movement reports, and exception forms.
  • Maintain brief contact with service center personnel and remain fast‑paced and deadline oriented.
  • Be available for work to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules.
Job Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple trailers, tanker, and hazardous material endorsements.
  • 12 months of previous tractor‑trailer driving experience or completion of a State Certified, Licensed and Safety Department approved driving school, or the Old Dominion Truck Driver Training program.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record and ability to read, write, and speak English; perform simple mathematical calculations; read maps and road signs; maintain logs.
  • Ability to operate handheld tablets and communicate via two‑way radio or phone.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety, control systems, and DOT regulations related to safe driving, hours of service, inspections, maintenance, and hazardous materials.
  • Must meet or exceed U.S. Department of Transportation medical standards and pass drug/alcohol tests.
  • Must be at least 22 years of age and possess satisfactory orientation/training program completion.
Physical Demands
  • Remain alert while driving for up to 11 hours.
  • Stand, walk, squat, crouch, kneel, and climb on various surfaces, often wet or slippery.
  • Perform frequent pushing and pulling of freight up to 500 pounds and occasional heavier loads, with or without mechanical aid.
  • Lift, carry, and move freight ranging from 1 to 100 pounds over distances up to 100 feet; load and unload full trailers up to 50,000 pounds.
  • Engage in tasks such as installing tire chains, operating trucks, shuttle, steering wheel, and safety equipment.
  • Use cognitive skills for attention to surroundings, safety logic, and reading manifests and navigation tools.
  • Pass any required physical testing consistent with the job requirements.
Work Environment
  • Exposed to weather variations, noise levels, and lighting conditions.
  • Work in enclosed vehicles while driving and in enclosed trailers during loading/unloading.
  • Interact with colleagues and customers in dynamic settings.
Working Days / Shift

Monday – Friday, AM/PM shifts. Days and shifts are estimates subject to change based on scheduling and business levels.
