Controller

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations, books, records, financial reporting, and internal controls for a portfolio of companies. This position will ensure accurate and timely financial information, maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards and tax requirements, and provide ownership and management with clear insight into each company's financial performance. Key Responsibilities Oversee the general ledger, books, and records, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and consistently.

Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation. Prepare and review balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and other financial reports for each company. Maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures, schedules, and supporting documentation across all entities. Monitor cash balances, cash flow, intercompany activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and bank reconciliations.

Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, improve accuracy, and reduce financial risk. Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, auditors, banks, insurance providers, and other professional service partners as needed. Support tax filings, annual audits or reviews, business registrations, compliance reporting, and other regulatory requirements. Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses to help ownership understand financial results and plan for future needs.

Identify process improvements, automation opportunities, and accounting system enhancements to improve efficiency and reporting quality. Supervise, train, or coordinate with bookkeeping, accounting, or administrative staff as applicable. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA designation preferred but not required. Minimum of 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including experience with small businesses, multiple entities, or closely held companies.

Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close procedures. Experience managing accounting records for multiple legal entities, business units, or companies strongly preferred. Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools. Experience with payroll, sales tax, income tax support, insurance audits, and banking relationships is a plus. Skills and Competencies High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple companies, deadlines, priorities, and reporting requirements at the same time. Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills. Clear communication skills with the ability to explain financial results to non-accounting stakeholders. Hands-on approach with willingness to perform detailed accounting work as well as higher-level financial review. Integrity, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential financial information. Ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting processes from transaction entry through financial reporting.
